Cantona on his infamous flying kick on a fan: I would have loved to kick him harder

It was January 25, 1995, when Eric Cantona flung himself into the stands at Selhurst Park, flying legs first into Matthew Simmons, a Crystal Palace fan.

The supporter had been sending abuse the way of the Frenchman, and Cantona wasn't the type to stand back and take it.

"I have a lot of good memories, but my favourite is when I kicked the hooligan," Cantona said, remembering the incident while speaking to The United Way.

"I regret one thing... I would have loved to kick him even harder.

"They banned me for nine months. They wanted to make an example of me. They insulted me thousands of times and I never reacted, but sometimes you're just a bit more fragile.

"I've said before that I should have kicked him harder. I can't regret it. It was a great feeling. I learned from it."
