How Shark Tanks Lori Greiner made her millions and became the QVC Queen: thanks to products

May 2024 · 3 minute read

From an early age Greiner was taught by her parents to earn a living from her own business rather than be an employee. She and her husband Dan don’t have children of their own, but today she does pay it forward by mentoring young people using the lessons she has learned along the way.

Greiner’s first million dollars came from selling jewellery storage pieces in the 1990s, and after her earrings organiser took off, she went from rich to even richer. The Chicago, Illinois, native has hosted the shopping channel QVC’s Clever & Unique Creations show for 20 years, earning her the nickname of the “QVC Queen”.

Made for the screen

Greiner studied film, TV and journalism at Loyola University Chicago and was even a playwright at one point so her knack for the small screen dovetails with her business skills. She even has her own production company Good Place Entertainment.

How much does she earn on Shark Tank?

The fellow shark she’s teamed up with most on deals is the richest in the ocean, billionaire Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. However the main panel is paid as cast members, unconnected to any deals they do on the show. It was estimated in 2016 that Greiner and co-stars Barbara Corcoran and Daymond John were paid at least US$50,000 per episode (or US$1.2 million annually).

Greiner has invested more than US$9.5 million on Shark Tank

According to Investopedia, Scrub Daddy has raked in more than US$200 million in sales after Greiner put in US$200,000 for a 20 per cent stake in 2012. Greiner helped sell 42,000 sponges in under seven minutes on QVC. Overall, 10 out of the 20 most successful products pitched were snapped up by her.

The Squatty Potty’s US$164 million in sales came after Greiner put in US$350,000 for a 10 per cent stake. The largest investment in her 61 deals (out of the 311 offered on the show so far) was US$600,000 for a 9 per cent stake in apparel brands RuffleButts and Ruggedbutts.

She inspires celebrities too

Greiner also tops up her fortune with paid public speaking engagements and advances from her various books including her 2014 debut Invent It, Sell It, Bank It: Make Your Million-Dollar Idea Into a Reality.

She may be married to Dan, the CFO of her For Your Ease Only company, but she spends plenty of time in bed with famous faces – as the blonde bombshell regularly interviews stars including Whoopi Goldberg, Olivia Munn, Jennifer Garner and Kesha for her “Bed Talks With Lori” Instagram Live sessions. It seems no name is too big to say yes when Greiner wants to get into some pillow talk.
