The curtain will come down on the 33rd Olympiad in the French capital on Sunday, and we are expecting a slightly more traditional affair than the divisive opening. So, with the closing ceremony around the corner, here is everything you need to know.

When and where is the closing ceremony?

The event is expected to start at 9pm on Sunday in Paris, which is 3am on Monday morning, Hong Kong time. It will be held at the Stade de France, venue of the athletics and rugby sevens during the Games.

Where in Hong Kong can I watch the ceremony?

Viewers can see it get under way on TVB from 2am or RTHK, where the programme starts at 3am.

If you are watching from the United States, you will need NBC, USA and Peacock.

In Singapore, viewers can follow the events via Mediacorp, while in Malaysia it will be shown on Astro.

What will happen at the closing ceremony?

It will feature traditional highlights, including the athletes’ parade, the extinguishing of the Olympic flame in Paris and the handover of the Olympic flag to the organisers of the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

A video showing what the next host city offers will be aired.

There will be a medal presentation ceremony – for the women’s marathon from earlier in the day.

Artistic director Thomas Jolly said the closing show would combine “wonder” and “dystopia”, suggesting some more darker elements than the joyful and impertinent tone of the opening ceremony on the River Seine.

Which athletes will be there?

According to the organiser, US swimming great Katie Ledecky will be among the flag bearers for the closing ceremony. The list of flag bearers from other countries and regions has not yet been revealed.

Will Tom Cruise be part of the closing ceremony?

Hollywood star Tom Cruise is expected to make an appearance, with US media reporting that he has prepared a daredevil stunt to pick up the Olympic flag and transfer it to Los Angeles, which will host the 2028 Games.

Breakdancer Arthur Cadre will play a central role in the ceremony. The 32-year-old was born to a mother who was part of the French volleyball team and a father who competed in the 1988 Seoul Olympics in windsurfing.

He fell into breakdancing at the age of nine after watching a clip on television, later adding contortion to his skill set, followed by acrobatics and circus arts. One YouTube video showing off his contortion skills has had more than a million views.
