Netflixs The Uncanny Counter star Jo Byeong-kyu offered lead in period K-drama, Ji Chang-wook eye

Shin has been offered the role of Son Hae-young, a woman who approaches civilian patrolman Kim Ji-wook – who also works part-time as a convenience store clerk at night – with a risky proposition: a fake marriage. Lee is considering the part of Ji-wook, a righteous man unable to refuse anyone in need.

Lee, who won the prize for rookie of the year in the 2022 MBC Awards for his part in The Golden Spoon, will next be seen alongside Lee Hanee in the drama Flowers that Bloom at Night. Meanwhile, Shin will soon be seen again in the fantasy film Our Season.

2. Saeraenadae

The Uncanny Counter star Jo Byeong-kyu has reportedly been offered a lead role in the historical drama Saeraenadae (Korean title).

The series will follow the trials of a crown prince in the era of Joseon dynastic rule in Korea who seeks to escape his kingdom and lead a happy life, and a woman born of lowly status who strives to achieve her happiness through social success.

Jo is being eyed for the role of prince Park Yeong, who disguises himself as an unemployed commoner.

It’s been a difficult few years for Jo, who was forced to step away from the spotlight just as he was hitting his stride when allegations of school bullying against him surfaced.

With the second season of The Uncanny Counter heating up screens this summer (streaming on Netflix internationally), the upcoming drama History of Losers on the way and this latest casting offer in a major period drama, Jo’s career appears to be getting back on track.

3. Pine

Actors Ji Chang-wook and Ryu Seung-ryong are in talks to lead the upcoming series Pine. From director Kang Yoon-sung, known for The Outlaws and Big Bet, the series is expected to air on a global streaming service.Based on a webtoon by Yoon Tae-ho of Misaeng fame, Pine tells the true story of an old commercial vessel containing rare and valuable artefacts which was discovered in South Korea in 1975.

Ji and Ryu are courting offers to appear as nephew and uncle Hee-dong and Gwan-seok, who set off on a dangerous treasure hunt in the treacherous waters off the coast of Korea.

Ji recently appeared in the shows The Sound of Magic and If You Wish Upon Me. Ryu is one of Korea’s most commercially successful actors, appearing in box office hits such as Miracle in Cell No. 7, Roaring Currents and Extreme Job; he is currently on screens in Disney+’s Moving.

4. Biography of a Villain

Shin Ha-kyun (Beyond Evil) and Kim Young-kwang (Somebody) are set to lead the upcoming thriller series Biography of a Villain, which is scheduled to hit screens in October.

Shin will play Han Dong-soo, a lawyer struggling to make ends meet who picks up clients by meeting inmates in prison. Despite his level-headed appearance, Dong-soo soon finds himself sucked into a quagmire of crime when his true desires begin to take over.

Kim will play Seo Do-young, the second-ranked figure in a major crime syndicate. A former baseball star with good looks to boot, he doesn’t seem like your typical hard-nosed criminal, but under his soft appearance lies a well of deep-seated rage.
